ASSESSMENT FOR OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Operations Management

Assessment Overview
Operations Management is assessed by:
(a) Examination
(b) Assignment (individual)

Individual Assignment Guide
➢ This component is 100% of your assessment. Its
purpose is to test your skill in analysing the
operations of a business.
➢ Please select a company, this maybe a company that
you work within or it may be a company that you are
particularly interested in for another reason. The key
thing is that you are able to gain access to
information about this company.

Individual Assignment Guide
➢ Please conduct a critique of this company’s operational
performance. In doing this you must demonstrate understanding
of how this company works from a practical point of view and
also demonstrate understanding of the models, theories and
tools covered in class and how they can be used, where
appropriate, to characterise and analyse the company.
➢ However, please be careful in selecting the methods, theories
and tools that you deploy in your analysis. There is no need to
attempt to cover all parts of the course material: this approach
will inevitably lead to a weak assignment. Only use what is
appropriate. Indeed one of the elements of a strong assignment
is demonstration of the ability to select appropriate analytical
aids.

Individual Assignment Guide
➢ This is a very broad assignment. It allows you scope to approach
it in a number of ways. Please therefore feel free to construct a
narrative that you feel best tells your story in the clearest way.
However, there are a few stipulations:
✓ Executive summary/abstract is not required,
✓ Be sure to include both an Introduction and a Conclusion,
✓ Assignment Word Limit: main text: 2500 (+/- 10%) words,
✓ Diagrams, Tables, Figures, Appendices and Reference List are not
included in word count,
✓ Assignment referencing should be done in the Harvard style.

Turnitin Originality Report – Avoiding Plagiarism
• Plagiarism is the unacknowledged use of someone else’s work as if it is your own
• Plagiarism is academic dishonesty – we ask you to submit a Statement of Academic Honesty in your
project, and when you submit your project will go through Turn-it-in
• Instances of academic dishonesty will be referred to the University’s Discipline Committee
• You can – and indeed are highly likely to – reference many types of data, writing and sources in your
study… we ask you to use Harvard style to indicate where you are citing or quoting literature or other
people’s data.
• You can find a comprehensive guide explaining how to use Harvard referencing on the Strathclyde
Library website – https://guides.lib.strath.ac.uk/ld.php?content_id=31947640
From: An Introduction to Project Methodology by Michael Marck, Dilshod Makhmadshoev & Dave Mackay
• Turnitin – Each student must submit electronically the project to Turnitin.
• Originality and Authenticity – The rules of academic ethics apply when undertaking this project,
including the requirements that the student undertakes the written project without improper or
unauthorized assistance from anyone. If it is determined that the project is not done individually
and solely by the student, the instructor may grade the written project as a FAIL.
